On the one hand, The Verge praises The tablet is praised to the skies: best display in the world, breathtaking performance, innovative touch operation. And on the other hand, the renowned New York IT magazine presented the Microsoft Surface Pro to hell: poor battery performance, shaky keyboard use, inconsistent device concept. Gerade ist das kleinere Surface RT hierzulande in den stationären Handel gekommen – zeitgleich kam in den USA der große Bruder Surface Pro auf den Markt und ist bei The Verge „The Big Story“ – das Video-Review kann oben angesehen werden. Die 128Gbyte-Version war rasch ausverkauft.

Fakencheck – was steckt drin im Microsoft Surface Pro?

A real strength of the smaller version of Microsoft's Surface RT is the battery life. So why is it only around four hours on the Surface Pro? And is it lagging behind all tablet rivals and even many ultrabooks?

According to Microsoft, this is due to the high performance and design. Microsoft's tablet comparison is also telling, with the Pro version being called Connections: „Im Ruhezustand nicht verbunden, um den Akku zu schonen.“  Bei der RT-Version hingegen steht: „Immer verbunden…“

Here are some more important facts about the Microsoft Surface Pro:

  • Das Surface Pro kostet rund 900 US-Dollar – mit Intel Core i5-Prozessor und 64 GByte Flash-Speicher (für die 128-Gbyte-Version fallen knapp 1.000 US-Dollar an).
  • The Surface Pro runs the Windows 8 operating system, no longer the Windows RT version.
  • A 10.6-inch clear-type Full HD display (16:9 / 1920 x 1,080 pixels) is now installed.
  • A working memory of 4 GB RAM is at work inside.
  • Fast USB 3.0 storage media can be connected on the outside.
  • The Pro version also comes with a stylus pen (of course, its touchscreen can still be operated with your fingers).
  • WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n is also included,
  • Bluetooth 4.0 and
  • two 720p HD cameras (front and rear).
