A Dual Boot from Windows 8.1 and 7 eignet sich für alle Nutzer, die nicht blind von Windows 7 zu Windows 8 wechseln wollen, sondern erst einmal beide Versionen ausgiebig vergleichen und sich dann entscheiden wollen. Hier eine Installationsanleitung – damit Sie auf beide Betriebssysteme parallel can access.
Dual Boot: Create new partition
To install Windows 8.1 and 7 in parallel, we recommend an additional hard disk partition. You can also carry out the installation on a single partition, but this makes the process unnecessarily difficult.
Here are the necessary steps:
- Gehen Sie unter Windows 7 auf die „Computerverwaltung“. Geben Sie dazu im Suchfeld des Startmenüs am besten „Computer“ ein und klicken dann auf „Computerverwaltung“, so gelangen Sie am schnellsten dorthin.
- Links finden Sie unter dem Menüpunkt „Datenspeicher“ den Punkt „Datenträgerverwaltung“. Klicken Sie darauf und markieren Sie mittig oben „Volume (C:)“.
- Nun klicken Sie unten „Volume (C:)“ mit der rechten Maustaste an und wählen im erscheinenden Menü den Punkt „Volume verkleinern“.
- Im Feld „Zu verkleinernder Speicherplatz in MB“ geben Sie an, wie viel Kapazität Sie für Windows 8.1 und 7 im Parallel-Betrieb verwenden wollen. Sie benötigen dafür mindestens 20.000 MB (also knapp 20 Gigabyte), nehmen Sie lieber etwas mehr.
Diesen Speicherplatz zeigt die „Datenträgerverwaltung“ anschließend als „nicht zugeordnet“ an. Klicken Sie mit der rechten Maustaste darauf und im Menü auf „Neues einfaches Volume“. Es öffnet sich ein Assistent, klicken Sie auf „Weiter“. Folgen Sie den Anweisungen, geben Sie zum Beispiel einen Laufwerksbuchstaben an.
Install Windows 8.1 and 7 in parallel
You can now set up Windows 8.1 and 7 in dual boot:
- Insert the installation DVD or insert the corresponding USB stick. Restart the computer.
- When restarting, press the space bar so that the computer starts from the installation medium.
- Select the language and enter the license key.
- In the next step, you must opt for the user-defined installation, otherwise Windows 8 will replace Windows 7.
- Select the partition you have created as the destination. This completes the process and from now on the computer will display both partitions for selection when starting up.
What speaks for a parallel installation
A Windows 8.1 7 Parallel Dual Boot is not only recommended for extensive testing of both versions, where you can identify the advantages and disadvantages in practice. You may also still have programs that only work on Windows 7. If you want to continue using them, you should not delete this version.
