The Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate is expected to be released on February 10. Included for the first time: the long-awaited Tracking Protection and a polished surface.

Since the end of last week, however, a preliminary version of the release candidate has been circulating on the Internet with the version number "9.0.8073.6003". Since Friday we have received several emails asking about the authenticity and even direct download links. Once again: Windows-Tweaks advises against downloading and installing these fakes.

The IE9 version not sanctioned by MS with the file name IE9-"Windows7-x86-enu" is now available from various file-sharing hosts (e.g. Rapidshare, Netload, Megaupload). In addition to the version number 6003, however, other variants have emerged: 9.0.8073.6010 and 9.0.8073.6018. However, behind this are only versions of build 6003 that have been modified by hackers.

Even if curiosity is high, we advise you: If you find one of the three versions mentioned online, keep your hands off it. As long as the versions do not officially originate from the Microsoft download server, there is too great a chance that they are infected with malware.

Therefore: It's best to wait until February 10 and download the completed RC version free of charge from Microsoft!
