Put an end to the boredom of a static desktop: DreamScene allows you to set videos as your desktop background. This function was once only available to purchasers of the Ultimate Edition of Windows Vista, but now all owners of Windows 7 and Vista have the option. Windows-Tweaks reveals how it's done:
1. Überspielen Sie das kleine Programm „DreamScene Enabler“ von der Designerseite Deviantart.
2. Entpacken Sie die Datei „DreamScene_Enabler_by_Senzune.zip“, klicken Sie im Anschluss mit der rechten Maustaste auf „DreamScene Enabler.exe“ und wählen Sie „Als Administrator ausführen“. Bestätigen Sie mit „Ja“.
3. Ein Klick auf „Enable“ genügt schon, um die DreamScene-Funktion einzuschalten. Starten Sie nach einem Klick auf „Finish“ den Rechner neu! Ab sofort können Sie jedes beliebige Video im AVI, MOV oder MPG Format als Hintergrundvideo verwenden – einfach mit der rechten Maustaste darauf klicken und „Set as Desktop Background“” anklicken.
Which videos are best suited for DreamScene?
Das Video sollte einen fliessenden Übergang zwischen Anfang und Ende haben! Ansonsten bemerken Sie ein unschönes Stocken, das den Gesamteindruck doch stark schmälert. Ausserdem sollte die Auflösung des Videos auch der Auflösung Ihres Bildschirms entsprechen. So wirkt ein DreamScene-Video mit der Auflösung 1280×1024 auf einem Bildschirm mit der Auflösung 1920×1200 verzerrt und pixelig!

A few words about the PC load
DreamScene is not recommended on weaker PCs with less than 2 Ghz (dual-core), as it slows down the computer noticeably. On modern PCs or notebooks, the load is in the single-digit range: an HD DreamScene video on a PC with 2.93 Ghz (Core 2 Duo) only consumes around 4-5% of processor power on one core. If you like the animated backgrounds, you can certainly get over it.
But beware: On notebooks, the permanent processor load (albeit low) ensures that the processor can hardly save any energy. DreamScene should therefore not be used on the move!

I have an E6750, i.e. 2 x 2.67Ghz. I have an Explorer load of up to 40 % when I set up a video as background. The load is 2-5 % after about 2 minutes. Is it normal that it overloads the system like this or is it just because my Cpu is a bit TOO weak for this kind of gaming?

Moin Riddick, sieht bei mir ganz ähnlich aus – im Alltag bemerkt man bei einer CPU-Auslastung von roundabout 2-5% keinen Unterschied. Die 40% beim Setzen des Hintergrunds sind zwar viel, doch man setzt das Video ja nur einmal – oder geschieht das regelmäßig?

This happens regularly, yes. I've even had Explorer load and even a system freeze because of it.
Bei nem einfachen Video-Hintergrund is die Auslastung nich so schlimm, da liegt die bei 2-5% etwa…wie du sagst. Wenn ich allerdings das Hackersvideo als Hintergrund mache dann is die Auslastung höher und es entstehen beim navigieren im System so leichte Ruckler und so. Bei dem Under the sea video gehts….die Auslastung hüpft allerdings weiterhin und egal bei welchem Video hatte ich schon Hänger und insgesamt jetz 2 mal nen Systemfreeze.
My system should be able to cope with this, but it seems that I'm reaching the limits of what's possible with the c2d here. Can you turn down the load somehow? Make it \"easier\" for the system to handle?
Would it help if I installed other codecs? What is the best place to start?
